When starting off with your SEO project you may need to consider many things to be followed and not to be followed. This may turn out to be frustrating while deciding with what tools would be most effective. No doubt, everyone aspire to rank higher and higher until his site appear on the first page of Google just to get more and more traffic everyday.
Here is a list of don’t and do’s in SEO if you want to achieve reasonable ranking in all major search engines:
1. Building Flash-Based Websites
As Google spiders cannot read the flash based content so do not built your page or website on flash. But if your website is made in html you can have a flash feature box or slideshow on the side of your page but don’t embed any important keyword containing content in flash files.
2. Use of Wrong Keywords
As SEO is all about the keywords, selection of wrong keywords may waste your months of hard work and struggle to rank your website among the top search results. You can consider google keyword tool in this case for selecting the right keyword for your site.
3. Overuse of Keywords
Including a reasonable number of keywords in your content is fine to achieve a good ranking on search engine. But stuffing too many keywords into the content may make it look unnatural to the reader. Do think that your content has to be read by the humans before the Google spiders.
4. Original and Updated Content
As content plays the most vital role in SEO it does not have to be copied from anywhere and should be updated and expanded continuously to attract the reader and keep them coming back to your page or site.
5. Using Images to Hide the Content
This is also an occasionally scene mistake. Just don’t embed your navigation and page copy in images as the Google spiders would not be able to identify this content. Therefore always go for text-based navigation and semantic mark-up.
6. Ignoring Social Media
As Google now puts the squeeze on old methods it has simultaneously integrated the social media along with its other search engine algorithm used to determine your site rank therefore it is worth paying lot of attention while optimizing your page or site.
7. Use of JAVA Script Menus
The search engine do not understand Java /Ajax script specially when you use it in navigation, the search engine would not be able to index your content. Therefore either use text-based CSS/HTML navigation or if you can’t do without Java script menus then built a site map or put the links in a no script tag to make your links crawl able by the search engine.
8. Don’t Waste Your Time Submitting URL to Search Engines.
You do not need to submit your site to the search engine as it extinguished years back. Your search engines will find your site very quickly whenever you get a linked from any website already being recognized by the search engine spiders. So there is no need for URL submission to the search engine.
9. Using the Same General Page Title & Meta-Tag across the Site
Using the similar keywords in page title and meta-tag all over the site would tell Google spiders that all the pages are about the same stuff therefore to distinguish your content you need to search the keywords accordingly.
10. Discouraging SEF URL’s
A SEF URL is a search engine friendly URL which is actually the human friendly URL which is the one containing the complete words and categories rather than having numbers or symbols.
It’s true that we all need to learn about SEO everyday to find out new things we can include and some factors we must exclude from our link building campaign but if we avoid the aforementioned SEO mistakes we will be able to put our site on secure side at least!
